A lovely friend of mine called me “an inspiration”, and this generous compliment took me by surprise. I had to question it ... am I “inspirational”?
She was commenting on a facebook post I had made about a trip to an indoor climbing centre with my family. One where it was only when I was at the top of my first wall, that I realised how high I was and how completely terrified I was about letting go at the top and trusting the rope to stop me falling to the ground.
I was literally petrified and it took a while to take that leap of absolute faith and just let go. It absolutely went against everything my mind was screaming at me and I had to contain the scream that wanted to come out of my mouth as the initial free fall occurred before the rope tension kicked in! I was literally shaking when I got to the ground. (I've included a picture of me coming down the wall at the bottom of this post.)
This was meant to be fun lol!! My daughter had been before and made it look so easy!
Now a part of me wanted to give up there and then and say this wasn't for me. I could so easily have let the fear win and given up. But instead I found a different wall and challenged myself again. I kept going despite the fear, for a variety of reasons:

Now a part of me wanted to give up there and then and say this wasn't for me. I could so easily have let the fear win and given up. But instead I found a different wall and challenged myself again. I kept going despite the fear, for a variety of reasons:
- because I had paid my money for an hour and I didn't want to waste it;
- because I didn't want to be a quitter;
- because I didn't want to miss being part of the experience with my family;
- because I didn't want to let myself down;
- because I didn't want to let my husband and daughter down;
- because I didn't want fear to win;
- but mainly because I wanted to try a different wall (every wall there was different) and see what it was like and to see if I could do it!
So looking at this compliment afterwards, it made me see myself in a new light. In fact it even made me look back at my life and realise there were many things I had done in my life that were inspirational to others, from trying dangerous sports and daredevil activities, to completing challenges, to moving location and even country, changing careers more than once, going self-employed, trying many new hobbies and activities, which often resulted in pushing myself outside my comfort zone in major ways.
Why do I do this??
Because one of my Soul Specialities is as an “Explorer Soul”.
Which means my Soul thrives on doing things its never done before, exploring and experiencing the new and different for me. And even occasionally paving the way for others.
I absolutely love to try new things, have new experiences and explore new places. It's part of who I am and I have to learn to go through the fear if I want to experience something new. The fear can still be there – I just don't let it stop me.
I may choose to never do that thing again – but I've done it, “been there and got the t-shirt”, and that's all I need.
Through doing these new things, it can give others the inspiration to try some too or to go out of their comfort zone.
Being inspirational to others can come in many ways. We all can get inspiration from others and you are inspirational too!
It could be from just expressing who you are – for example dying your hair, or the clothes you wear, or having a bold new haircut, can inspire someone else to change theirs. Moving to a completely new location, can inspire others to do the same. Or to go back to studying, try a new hobby, or change job or career. Or to leave a difficult relationship, or to stand up to someone, or any other myriad of ways you express who you are, or try something different, or make a change can inspire and motivate others to make changes in their own life.
The new and different can be very scary. Change can be uncomfortable. But wonderful things happen outside of your comfort zone. Why not dare to go there and be an inspiration to others too!
With Love and Light
Louise

It will probably take you out of your comfort zone. p.p.s. Here's a picture of me clinging on to the rope, coming down, after taking a leap of faith off the wall! Notice I couldn't look down lol!
